Vaccination campaign at power plant construction site

Herne/Essen. On Friday, August 27th, Herne City Council and STEAG made an offer of vaccination to the employees at the site of the new combined cycle power plant at Hertener Strasse. More than 60 staff members made use of that opportunity and received their coronavirus jabs from the medical personnel of the Herne mobile vaccination team.

All the candidates had a free choice of vaccine: “In addition to the vaccine from Johnson & Johnson, with which a single vaccination is sufficient for full protection, the vaccines from BioNTec and Moderna were also available,” explains Kai Braekler, the project manager at STEAG for construction of the new power plant in Herne.

Vaccination as the best form of prevention
In this campaign, STEAG and the City of Herne are pursuing the goal of offering employees on the construction site and at the STEAG power plant in Herne the best possible protection against infection with the corona pathogen or at least against a severe course of the possible illness. “As things stand today, the best form of pandemic protection for our society as a whole is the highest possible vaccination rate,” says Dr. Andreas Reichel, Human Resources Director and member of the STEAG Management Board. In this context, STEAG had already offered vaccinations to its own workforce at all its sites some months ago.

With a view to protecting the health of employees working for contractors and service providers on the power plant construction project in Herne, STEAG was pleased to accept the offer from the City of Herne to provide a mobile team offering Corona vaccinations directly on site.

City of Herne relies on high vaccination rate
The City of Herne and its Mayor Dr. Frank Dudda are also aiming for a high vaccination rate: “As long as children under the age of 12 or pregnant women, for example, are still unable to obtain protection for themselves through vaccination, it is a matter of welfare and solidarity that the rest of our society should have themselves vaccinated in large numbers, so that the unprotected sections of the population can also be given the greatest possible indirect protection.”
