STEAG intensifies transformation process
Essen. The Essen-based energy company STEAG is consistently pushing ahead with its reorientation towards growth areas beyond its previous core business. To this end, the supervisory board of STEAG GmbH has appointed Carsten König as a new member of the management board. As Chief Transformation Officer, the industrial engineering graduate will continue to drive forward the realignment process that has been successful to date.
Carsten König is the fourth new managing director of STEAG GmbH within just under a year. Since May 2020, Dr Heiko Sanders (Commercial Division), Dr Andreas Reichel (Human Resources and Labour Director) and Dr Ralf Schiele (Market and Technology) have been successively newly appointed to the board. Joachim Rumstadt has been Chairman of the Management Board of STEAG GmbH since 2009.
New markets and business areas in sight
With the transformation process started in autumn 2020, STEAG wants to open up new business areas and markets. The focus here is on smart, holistic energy solutions, the renewable energy business and the development of digital business models. In addition, STEAG sees great growth potential in the decarbonization of industry, of which the energy company has been a partner since its founding. "We have laid the decisive foundations for restructuring. Now we are pleased that Carsten König, a proven expert in this field, will support us in our efforts to reposition STEAG," says Joachim Rumstadt.
Carsten König looks back on two decades of experience in restructuring and repositioning industrial companies. The 49-year-old is Managing Director of the international management consultancy Alix Partners and an expert in financial and operational reorganizations and transformations of companies.
Additional support from proven transformation expert
Guntram Pehlke, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of STEAG GmbH, is confident that STEAG GmbH, which is already well positioned in many areas, can be successfully aligned for the future and successfully positioned in the competitive arena through targeted measures. "However, the work on the restructuring programme comes on top. That is why we have decided to strengthen the STEAG management team once again," says Guntram Pehlke. "We are glad to have found an absolute expert for the position of Chief Transformation Officer. Carsten König has a great deal of experience with restructuring processes and has repeatedly proven that he can achieve a turnaround with companies. I am sure that he will work well with his colleagues in the STEAG management."
