STEAG ensures continuity at the top

Essen. At its meeting on January 25, the Supervisory Board of STEAG GmbH appointed Dr. Ralf Schiele as a member of the Management Board of STEAG GmbH for a further three years. Schiele, who holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering, has been a member of the STEAG management since October 2020 and is responsible for the Market and Technology division. His appointment as Chief Operating Officer (COO) now runs until the end of September 2026. Ralf Schiele has worked for the STEAG Group for 20 years. Dr. Andreas Reichel, who is Chairman of the Management Board of STEAG GmbH and HR Director, had already been reappointed in 2022 with effect until the end of July 2026.

“By extending Ralf Schiele’s appointment for a further three years, we are ensuring that STEAG’s proven management team remains on board. In 2022, we successfully implemented the ambitious split of the STEAG Group into Iqony and STEAG Power, which was largely initiated by STEAG’s Chief Transformation Officer Ralf Schmitz. Together with today’s personnel decision, we have now implemented the best possible staffing and organizational setup for the future of the two parts of the Group, also from the point of view of potential investors, for the optimum further development and successful sale of the company as a whole,” says Ewald Woste, who has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of STEAG GmbH since December 2022.

Best possible lineup implemented
STEAG GmbH has been acting as the holding company of the STEAG Group since the beginning of 2023. STEAG has grouped the green growth businesses of the Essen-based energy company together in the new Iqony GmbH, which was launched on January 1, 2023. In the new setup, STEAG’s traditional coal business operates under the umbrella of STEAG Power GmbH. The three STEAG GmbH directors Andreas Reichel, Ralf Schiele and Ralf Schmitz are also directors of the subsidiaries Iqony GmbH and STEAG Power GmbH.
