Wind Projects in Germany

In Germany, STEAG develops wind energy projects together with local power supply utilities and landowners. Local authorities and residents can also invest in the wind projects through shareholdings or bonds and thus reap the financial rewards. STEAG plans, implements and operates the projects on all kinds of land suitable for wind turbines, such as mining tips, landfills and open spaces. The first wind energy projects have already been completed, with others under construction or in planning.

Since autumn 2010, for instance, two 100 meter tall wind turbines installed at an altitude of 200 meters on the Oberscholven mining tip in the Ruhr have been generating electricity. The investor and operator of the facilities is a joint venture between STEAG subsidiary Mingas-Power GmbH and Emscher Lippe Energie GmbH.
