The coming years will see a further rise in global demand for electricity. According to an estimate by the International Energy Agency, demand is set to nearly double between 2008 and 2035. With a share of 40 percent, coal is currently the number one energy source and will remain so in the medium term.
STEAG, as Germany’s fifth largest electricity generator, has the know-how for the planning, financing, construction and operation of efficient hard coal fired power plants.
Especially efficient use of the hard coal resources is facilitated by cogeneration, i.e. the simultaneous production of electricity and usable heat; this thermal energy is either used for heating purposes or is purchased by industrial customers in the form of process heat for production.
