Power plants in Germany and abroad

Worldwide, STEAG operates power plants with a total installed capacity of around 9,400 megawatts (MW).

In Germany we have hard coal fired power plants at eight locations in the Rhine-Ruhr region and in the Saarland state. Both industry and public utilities are numbered among the customers for electricity; to a very large extent, long-term supply and purchase contracts have been agreed. Customers include RWE, EnBW and Deutsche Bahn. Cogeneration, in other words the simultaneous generation of electricity and usable heat, is practised where it makes commercial sense. The heat is marketed for heating purposes or used by industrial plants as process heat for production processes. In two industrial power plants we also recycle the by-products of refineries to supply them with steam, compressed air and electricity. Throughout Germany we have more than 100 plants which produce energy from renewable sources. In addition, more than 100 decentralized plants supply energy to industrial and commercial customers.

Abroad, we contribute to public energy supply with hard coal fired power plants in Turkey, Colombia and the Philippines. Internationally, we also develop wind power and solar thermal projects.
