STEAG’s history not only goes back a long way, but is also full of highly interesting technical and commercial developments. The story begins with the establishment of Steinkohlen-Elektrizität AG (STEAG) in the 1930s, which originally ran just two strategically important industrial power plants, and ends with today’s modern energy corporation.

Our history is closely linked with that of the industrial centers of western Germany, with their tradition of facing and mastering new technical challenges as they arise. In this tradition we have, for instance, constantly worked to improve plant efficiency and reduce CO₂ emissions, and stepped up activities in power generation from renewable sources.
