Since March 2011, Stadtwerke-Konsortium Rhein-Ruhr has been the majority owner (51%) of STEAG. Evonik holds 49%. The municipal utilities consortium is an association of seven municipal enterprises from the Ruhr district: Stadtwerke Duisburg AG, Dortmunder Stadtwerke AG, Dortmunder Energie- und Wasserversorgung GmbH, Stadtwerke Bochum GmbH, Stadtwerke Essen AG, Stadtwerke Dinslaken GmbH and Energieversorgung Oberhausen AG.
