It is our objective to contribute on the local and global levels to a balance between the energy policy targets of security of supply, cost-effectiveness and environmental compatibility.
Our responsibility as an energy company includes the efficient use of raw materials. Consequently, our research and development focuses on increasing the efficiency and continuously improving the environmental engineering in fossil fueled power plants, and on renewable energy sources. For both fossil fuels and renewables, we aim at flexible and economic deployment of power plant capacity. In the field of renewables, we are pursuing projects with biomass, biogas, geothermal energy, mine gas, solarthermics and wind power.
We are also continuously improving the efficient use of water in our power plant processes.
We regard the reduction of greenhouse gases as an important challenge. For us, climate protection means using all the fuels we deploy in a highly efficient manner, extending the use of combined heat and power generation, pressing ahead with the expansion of renewables and thus limiting the emissions of greenhouse gases.
As an international energy company we contribute to covering the rising global demand for energy and providing a growing population with access to electricity.
Health promotion is a fundamental component of our human resources work. One example of holistic health promotion at STEAG is the LIFE program, which focuses on long-term individual promotion of personal responsibility. In the spirit of our health protection program, the LIFE concept is aimed at increasing the employees’ awareness of health matters and supporting their initiatives to stay fit and healthy. At the same time, LIFE, in cooperation with a network of internal and external partners, provides individual assistance in overcoming illnesses and crises.
Occupational health and safety are systematically integrated into the workflows at STEAG and practiced. The employers’ insurance organization has consequently certified the health and safety at work systems at all STEAG’s power plants on the Rhine and Ruhr and at the Leuna refinery power plant. The involvement of management and staff was an important aspect in the certification process, with questions being asked to demonstrate awareness of potential hazards.
We take account of the requirements of an ageing workforce, ensure the preservation of know-how in the company and formulate our human resources strategy in line with demographic change.
